Overview
In multi-camera BlackVue setups, the rear camera may repeatedly connect and disconnect. This is typically caused by a faulty cable, a loose connection, or a channel conflict between the front and rear units. Follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue.
Preliminary Check — Confirm Initial Setup Was Completed
AGENT NOTE
If the customer is also asking about basic settings (e.g., how to adjust the volume separately for front and rear, or how to navigate the app), check whether initial setup was properly completed before troubleshooting connectivity. Skipping setup steps is a common cause of apparent connectivity issues in multi-camera configurations.
Troubleshooting Steps
Step 1 — Inspect the Cable Connection at Both Ends
A loose or partially seated cable is the most common cause of rear camera disconnection loops.
- Power off the dashcam completely before inspecting cables.
- Check the connection at the rear camera port — ensure the connector is fully inserted and the locking clip (if present) is engaged.
- Check the connection at the front unit's rear camera input.
- Look for any visible damage to the cable (kinks, cuts, or pinch points).
Step 2 — Try a Different Cable
If no visible damage is found but the issue persists, the cable may have an internal fault. Replace the cable with a known-good BlackVue rear camera cable of the correct length for your model and test again.
Only use BlackVue-branded rear camera cables. Third-party cables may not meet the signal specifications required for stable rear camera communication.
Escalation
If all above steps have been completed and the rear camera continues to disconnect, escalate to Tier 2 with the following documented:
- Confirm cable has been physically inspected and replaced with a known-good cable.
- Note the interval of the disconnect loop (e.g., disconnects every 30 seconds).
- Note any LED or audio cues from the front or rear unit at the time of disconnection.
