If your BlackVue dashcam displays the wrong date and time after each reboot, it’s likely due to a failing RTC (Real-Time Clock) battery.

What Is the RTC Battery?

The RTC battery is a non-rechargeable internal battery that maintains the date and time settings when the dashcam loses external power.

Signs of a Failing RTC Battery

• Recordings have incorrect date/time.
• Camera resets to factory time when powered off.

How to Fix

• The RTC battery is not user-serviceable in most BlackVue models.

• If symptoms persist, the RTC battery may need replacement.

• Contact BlackVue Customer Support for guidance and service options.

• Firmware updates or external power issues do not fix an RTC battery problem, but it’s still good to keep firmware updated.

Note

If your dashcam is equipped with GPS, it can automatically correct the time once a GPS connection is established — even if the RTC battery is failing. However, this sync may take a few minutes after startup, and time-sensitive features may still be affected during that delay.
