Keeping your BlackVue dashcam's firmware up-to-date ensures you benefit from the latest features, security fixes, and performance improvements. Use the following step-by-step guides to perform a Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA/OTA) update wirelessly or via SD card.
Note: The process may vary slightly depending on your camera model and app version. Always ensure your dashcam is powered on and do not interrupt the update process to prevent malfunctions.
1. Firmware update via OTA/FOTA (wireless, App-based)
A. Through the BlackVue/Fleeta app (Wi-Fi or Cloud connection)
-
Connect your phone to the internet
- Ensure a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
-
Open the BlackVue app
- Log in to your account.
- Go to the Camera menu and tap the desired camera.
-
Access firmware update
- Tap More (or three-dot menu, depending on your app).
- Select Remote Firmware Update or FOTA Update.
-
Check for updates
- The app will display the current firmware version, release notes, and the latest available firmware.
-
Download and send update
- Tap Update Firmware.
- The app will download the firmware and prompt you to connect your phone to the dashcam’s Wi-Fi (for direct transfer), or start updating automatically if you're using Cloud FOTA.
-
Install the update
- Confirm the update to begin the transfer.
- The update is wirelessly sent to the dashcam.
- Wait for completion. You’ll see a confirmation message and your dashcam will reboot.
-
Do not disconnect power
- Keep the dashcam powered on until it fully restarts and begins normal recording.
B. Via the Cloud (Cloud FOTA)
- Available for Cloud-connected cameras only.
- From the app or web viewer:
- Go to More (...) > Remote Firmware Update.
- Tap Update Firmware to download and install the latest version directly via Cloud.
- Wait for the update to complete. Dashcam will reboot automatically.
2. Firmware update via SD card (manual, using a computer)
-
Prepare the SD card
- Remove the SD card from your dashcam.
- Insert it into your computer using a card reader.
- Backup important files before formatting, as the update may erase recordings.
-
Download firmware
- Go to www.blackvue.com > Support > Downloads.
- Find your dashcam model and download the latest firmware (ZIP file).
- Unzip the file. Copy the entire “BlackVue” folder to the root of the SD card.
-
Insert and update
- Safely eject the SD card and insert it back into the dashcam.
- Power on the dashcam.
- The dashcam will automatically detect and apply the firmware update.
- Wait until the process is complete and the dashcam reboots into normal recording mode.
-
Do not remove power during update
- Only power off or remove the SD card after the dashcam has fully restarted and is operational.
Troubleshooting and tips
-
If the update fails or the camera is unresponsive:
- Reformat the SD card, re-download the correct firmware, and repeat the steps.
-
Do not interrupt the update process:
- Power loss or ejecting the SD card during update may cause camera malfunction.
- Ensure the firmware version and language match your device and preferences.
- View release notes before updating for details on new features or changes.
Regularly updating your BlackVue dashcam’s firmware keeps your device performing optimally, adds new features, and resolves bugs easily—whether wirelessly via the app or manually through SD card.
