Adding LTE connectivity or external modules to your BlackVue dashcam enables remote Cloud access and features like live view, notifications, and fleet tracking. Use these best practices to ensure a successful installation and smooth SIM card setup.
Note: Screenshots in this guide are based on the BlackVue app and may vary slightly depending on your camera model or app.
1. Preparing for installation
- Confirm compatibility: Ensure your dashcam model supports LTE modules (like the CM100GLTE). Compatible models include the X and Plus series (e.g., DR970X, DR900X, DR770X, DR750X) and certain Box/Truck variants.
- Gather all parts: You’ll need the external LTE module, cable clips, SIM eject tool, double-sided adhesive, and your Nano SIM card.
- Update your firmware: Use the latest BlackVue camera firmware for best results.
2. LTE/external module installation steps
A. Choosing the installation location
- Mount the LTE module at the top corner of the windshield for optimal reception.
- Make sure the surface is clean and dry before attaching the mounting adhesive.
Do not install the module where it could obstruct the driver’s field of view.
B. Physical installation process
- Turn off the vehicle’s engine and the dashcam before installation for safety.
SIM card insertion:
- Use a small screwdriver to unscrew the SIM slot cover.
- Gently eject the SIM tray using the included tool.
- Insert the Nano SIM (gold contacts facing down).
- Replace and secure the SIM tray and cover.
Adhere the module:
Peel the covering from the adhesive tape and press the module firmly onto the cleaned windshield corner.Connect to dashcam:
Plug the module’s USB cable into the dashcam’s USB port.- Tidy up the cables:
Use the included clips or a pry tool to tuck the cable along the door trim or headliner. Avoid routing cables where airbags deploy.
C. Power up and test
- Turn on the vehicle. The dashcam and LTE module will power on together.
- A status LED on the module indicates power and network connection.
3. SIM card activation and setup
- Use a Nano SIM card with a data plan suitable for LTE use (not voice-only).
- Insert the SIM card fully; the module powers up when the dashcam is on.
- If using a BlackVue SIM:
- Activation may be automatic, or follow prompts in the BlackVue app/web viewer.
- To activate, enter the ICCID (SIM serial) if prompted, and set up your plan or free trial.
- For third-party SIMs:
- You may need to manually enter the carrier's APN settings during SIM activation.
- Use the app’s connectivity menu to select network/country or enter custom APN values if not listed.
- Wait for “Cloud connected” status or signal bars in the app to confirm LTE is working.
4. Troubleshooting and best practices
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Module not detected | Check USB connection; ensure dashcam firmware is up to date |
| No SIM card/No network | Reinsert SIM; check for correct size/type; ensure data plan is active |
| No Cloud access/LTE not working | Verify APN settings, reboot dashcam, confirm SIM compatibility, move to area with better reception |
| Frequent disconnects | Avoid mounting module near metal or electronics that can interfere with LTE; use cable clips to secure |
| Can’t activate BlackVue SIM | Enter correct ICCID in app/web, follow steps for registration or contact support |
Tips:
- BlackVue LTE modules work globally; check carrier support and frequency bands for your country.
- Only power the dashcam with the vehicle off during installation/uninstallation.
- For best performance, use recommended professional installation if you’re not familiar with vehicle electronics.
LTE modules and SIM cards, when installed with care, provide continuous Cloud connectivity and vehicle monitoring for the ultimate peace of mind.
