With BlackVue Cloud, your dashcam can automatically upload crucial event recordings—such as impacts, driver monitoring system detections, and manual triggers—to the Cloud in real time. This feature ensures critical evidence is safely stored remotely, even if the dashcam is damaged or stolen.
Note: Screenshots in this guide are based on the BlackVue app and may vary slightly depending on your camera model or app.
What are event files?
- Event files are recordings automatically triggered when your dashcam detects specific situations—including collisions, hard braking, abrupt acceleration, excessive speed, or manual activation.
- Most models save the seconds before and after the trigger (ten-second pre-impact buffer) to capture the full incident context.
How Cloud event upload works
- Live Event Upload: When enabled, your dashcam uploads low-resolution copies of event videos to BlackVue Cloud instantly as the event occurs. Full-resolution files stay on the SD card and can be manually copied to My Drive cloud storage or download to your device.
- Events are only uploaded if the dashcam is Cloud-connected (via Wi-Fi hotspot or built-in LTE SIM).
- If the camera is not connected at the time of the event, files are not automatically uploaded, but you can manually upload them later through the app.
Supported event triggers
- Impacts while driving (detected by the G-sensor)
- Impacts during parking mode (detected by the G-sensor)
- Manual recording (triggered by touch sensor or designated button)
- Speed alerts, hard braking/acceleration/cornering (on supported models)
- DMS alerts (on models with driver monitoring capability)
Complete List of event files
- E (Driving Impact) - an impact detected during normal recording mode
- I (Parking Impact) - an impact detected during parking recording mode
- O (Overspeed) - an event file is recorded when the car exceeds the set speed limit
- A (Hard acceleration) - an event caused by sudden acceleration during normal recording mode
- T (Hard cornering) - an event caused by sudden turn (curve) during normal recording mode
- B (Hard braking) - an event caused by sudden brake during normal recording mode
- R (Geofence-enter) - camera records event file when the car enters a geofence area (polygon, rectangle, circle)
- X (Geofence-exit) - camera records event file when the car exits a geofence area (polygon, rectangle, circle)
- G (Geofence-pass) - camera records event when the car passes through a polyline geofence
- D (Drowsiness) - camera records event file when it detects driver drowsiness (DMS model only)
- L (Distracted) - camera records event file when it detects distraction of the driver (DMS model only)
- F (Undetected) - camera records event file when it does not detect the driver (DMS model only)
- Y (Seatbelt) - camera records event file when the seatbelt is unfastened, especially during driving (DMS model only)
- M (Manual) - a manually recorded file triggered by the touch sensor
How to enable and set up event file uploading
In the BlackVue app
- Connect your dashcam to the Cloud.
- Go to your camera settings in the BlackVue app. Choose the camera you want to check the event trigger settings.
- Tapo More (...) and choose Camera Settings from the submenu.
Click Event Triggers to see all trigger settings.
- Priority Event: Manual Recording, Driving Impact, Parking Impact
- Reckless Driving: Speed Alert, Hard Acceleration, Hard Braking, Hard Cornering
- DMS Camera: Drowsiness, Distraction, Seat belt, Undetected
- Ensure Live Event Upload is enabled.
- For each event type, enable Live Event Upload for the camera to automatically upload event files to the Cloud.
- In addition, you can also choose which video source (front, rear, optional) recording you would like to be uploaded to the Cloud automatically.
- Save your changes. Your dashcam will now upload event files to the Cloud automatically when those triggers occur.
On a computer or web viewer
- Open BlackVue Cloud or the PC Viewer.
- Go to your camera list, choose More(...) > Camera Settings > Event Triggers.
- Enable upload for each event type as needed.
Manual event file uploads
- If an important file was not uploaded automatically, you can manually upload it to My Drive/Fleeta Drive:
- Access the recordings in your camera.
- Select the event file you want to upload to My Drive by clicking the three vertically stacked dots to see the submenu.
- Tap Upload to My Drive.
- Select the video quality and video direction then tap Download.
Cloud storage, quotas, and retention
| Plan Type | Storage per dashcam | Retention period for auto-uploaded live event files | Max dashcams/account |

| Free Plan | 5GB | 2 days | 1 |
| Paid Plan | Lite -5GB ; Smart - 10 GB; Fleet -15GB | Lite - 7 days Smart, Fleet - 30 days | Lite, Smart - up to 15 Fleet - up to 999 |
Quick troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Event not uploaded to Cloud | Check Cloud connection, camera Cloud plan/status |
| Only some events uploading | Enable Live Event Upload for all required triggers |
| Files not found in Cloud after event | Verify retention period and available storage |
| Manual upload fails | Update app/firmware, check Cloud connection |
Best practices
- Keep your dashcam's firmware and app up to date.
- Regularly monitor Cloud storage and download critical footage before auto-deletion.
- For maximum security, enable Live Event Upload for all major event triggers.
With proper setup, BlackVue Cloud ensures your most important event footage is instantly saved remotely, giving you peace of mind and easier access to evidence when you need it most.
