All BlackVue cameras create the front camera recordings. Two-channel camera models produce the rear camera recordings as well. For three-channel models, the third camera recordings can come from an interior/cabin view camera (IR), waterproof external truck camera, or a driver monitoring systems (DMS) camera.

There are four major types of recording modes: Normal, Event, Manual, and Parking.

However, only camera models with a built-in proximity or touch sensor can produce Manual Mode recordings.

BlackVue cameras record in one-minute video segments. Some models can record two- or three-minute video segments when the video resolution is reduced.

Normal Recording

• By default, the dashcam starts to record in Normal Mode. Unless there is an impact detected (e.g. during an accident, or bump on the road) while driving, the camera will record Normal Mode files (blue icons in the recording files list).

Event Recording

• Event files (red icons in the recording files list) are recorded by the camera when an impact is detected while driving (or in Normal Mode). The camera will also record Event files while the car is parked (Parking Mode) if it detects an impact depending on how the user sets the event detection settings in the firmware. The camera will save the event file starting from five (or ten in newer models) seconds before an event is triggered. Exceeding the set speed limit will also trigger an event recording. With the introduction of the driver monitoring system in BlackVue, event files also include Drowsiness, Distraction, Undetected Driver, and Unfastened Seatbelt. Additionally, hard braking, hard acceleration, and hard cornering are classified as event types.
• Event Files are further classified as follows:
  1. E (Driving Impact) - an impact detected during normal recording mode
  2. I (Parking Impact) - an impact detected during parking recording mode
  3. O (Overspeed) - an event file is recorded when the car exceeds the set speed limit
  4. A (Hard acceleration) - an event caused by sudden acceleration during normal recording mode
  5. T (Hard cornering) - an event caused by sudden turn (curve) during normal recording mode
  6. B (Hard braking) - an event caused by sudden brake during normal recording mode
  7. R (Geofence-enter) - camera records event file when the car enters a geofence area (polygon, rectangle, circle)
  8. X (Geofence-exit) - camera records event file when the car exits a geofence area (polygon, rectangle, circle)
  9. G (Geofence-pass) - camera records event when the car passes through a polyline geofence
  10. D (Drowsiness) - camera records event file when it detects driver drowsiness (DMS model only)
  11. L (Distracted) - camera records event file when it detects distraction of the driver (DMS model only)
  12. F (Undetected) - camera records event file when it does not detect the driver (DMS model only)
  13. Y (Seatbelt) - camera records event file when the seatbelt is unfastened, especially during driving (DMS model only)

Manual Recording

• As the name suggests, this type of recording file is triggered manually. Through the proximity sensor/touch sensor of the camera, Manual recording files (orange icons in the recording files list) can be created both while driving and when the car is parked. Touching the touch sensor or waving a finger within 20 mm from the proximity sensor will activate manual recording (Note: In the firmware settings, Manual Recording should be set to be triggered by the sensor).

Parking Recording

• In general,  the camera proceeds to Parking Mode five seconds after it detects that the car is not in motion, in which the camera buffers video. BlackVue X-models and latest models can proceed to the parking mode immediately after turning the car engine off when the camera is powered by a hardwiring system. When the car is parked and the camera is still powered by a parking mode device, parking files are recorded every time the camera detects motion (in Motion Detection Parking Mode). Some BlackVue cameras (750S, 900S, X Series, and LTE models) produce compressed parking files during Time-lapse Parking Mode (i.e. 30 minutes of real-time parking time with no motion detection is compressed into one-minute parking file recording).
