Granting proper app permissions ensures your BlackVue app and dashcam deliver the best experience—so you receive notifications, store videos, and access location data for features like GPS tracking and cloud services.
Note: Screenshots in this guide are based on the BlackVue app and may vary slightly depending on your camera model or app.
1. Why Are Permissions Important?
- Notifications: Get alerts for impacts, events, parking incidents, and cloud status.
- Storage: Download, save, and share dashcam videos on your device.
- GPS/Location: Enable speed, mapping, cloud tracking, and fleet management features.
- Camera/Microphone: Some features require temporary access during pairing or troubleshooting.
2. How to Grant Permissions
For Android Devices
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Select "Apps" or "Applications."
- Find and tap the BlackVue (or Fleeta) app.
- Tap "Permissions."
- Enable:
- Notifications
- Location/GPS (“While using the app” is recommended)
- Storage/Files and media
- Camera (for QR code registration, if needed)
- Enable:
- Confirm that all relevant permissions are enabled.
For iOS Devices
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll to find and select BlackVue (or Fleeta) app.
- Configure permissions:
- Notifications: Tap to enable Alerts/Banners.
- Location: Set to “While Using” or “Always,” depending on desired features.
- Photos/Media: Allow access for video downloads.
- Camera: Enable if planning to scan QR codes.
3. In-App Permission Requests
When first launching or updating the BlackVue app, you may see pop-ups requesting access to notifications, GPS/location, and storage. It's best to accept these to use all features.
4. Configuring Notification Settings
In the app:
- Tap Account tab.
- Tap the bell icon on the top-right corner of the screen.
- Tap the gear icon on the top-right corner of the screen to see the notification settings.
- Toggle the Push Notifications button to the right.
- For individual camera notifications, you can further choose which event types trigger alerts (impact, parking, cloud status changes).
5. Configuring GPS and Privacy Settings
- The app usually requests GPS access when registering your camera.
- To adjust later:
- Go to More(...) > Camera Settings > Privacy of a particular camera.
- Toggle Allow GPS Access for GPS data to be added in your recordings.
- Tip: GPS access enables location-based features but does not share your data publicly unless you enable sharing separately, including location, live view video, live view audio, and camera profile.
6. Storage & File Management Permissions
- Storage access is required for saving, exporting, and backing up recordings.
- On first download attempt, grant permission to access device storage/photos.
7. Troubleshooting Common Permission Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Notifications not received | Check both app notification setting and system notification permissions. |
| Can't save/download videos | Enable Storage/Photos access in app settings. |
| GPS/map features not working | Grant Location access and confirm in app privacy settings. |
| QR code scanning fails | Enable Camera access in app permissions. |
Fully enabling permissions in your BlackVue or Fleeta app empowers you to stay notified, access full storage capabilities, and unlock advanced tracking and security features with confidence.
